Improving Express Packaging Structure for Enhancing the Reuse of Express Packaging

With the rapid development of the express delivery industry, billions of parcels are used every day hence generating a massive amount of waste packaging materials. The problem of express packaging waste has become severe in China. The study hypothesizes that if customers could increase the reuse of express packaging, they could help reduce the amount of express packaging waste. This is a desktop survey to determine methods to improve the reuse of express packaging based on the recycling pattern of the express delivery industry in China. This study conducted a systematic literature review synthesis process to evaluate the trend, identify the gaps and recommend future approach in order to improve reuse of express packaging. It focuses on regular express packaging, reusable express packaging and express packaging materials. Results found utilizing low-cost express packaging materials and optimizing express packaging structures can change the reuse pattern of express packaging. Reusing could reduce recycling costs thus increasing the application potential for the reuse of express packaging. This study is expected to contribute in improving express packaging recycling by optimizing express packaging structures and reduce landfill requirements for high population density cities.
