Systematic Literature Review of the Applications Development Aimed at Language Skills Stimulation in Children

With the latest developments in the ICT area, teachers and therapists have new opportunities to incorporate innovative technological tools to support the teaching and learning processes and diagnose and intervene in children with communication disorders. Although many studies address approaches to the stimulation of listening skills, there have been no systematic reviews of the literature covering tools, methodologies, and technological validations to stimulate listening skills. This article presents the three stages of a Kitchenham Systematic Literature Review: 1) planning, (2) execution, and (3) documentation. Therefore, this article presents a systematic review of the literature of primary studies related to auditory stimulation and technology, which focuses on establishing relationships between software, hardware, and methodologies that work together to support the development of auditory stimulation communication. In this study, 427 articles were extracted; only 36 were selected after applying the corresponding inclusion and exclusion criteria. The findings of this review highlight the crucial role that technological solutions play in improving communication and skills development in children and adolescents with speech and language disorders.
