Outlook on the Consumption of Sugar, Salt, and Milkfat

  • Salvatore Parisi

摘要

The definition of reliable estimations concerning the real consumption of sugars, salt, and milkfat in the current food and beverage market. Basically, the following factors should be included in the analysis: commercial segmentation of food and beverage products; technical differences between edible products; geographical differences; social differences in a well-specified population. Probably, some interesting evaluation could be made on the commercial/economic viewpoint, taking into account the production of processed foods in terms of pure production, distribution, and commercial sales. However, above-mentioned factors can be really challenging in this ambit. On the other side, the problem of social behaviours would be probably diminished in terms of influence on the final result. At present, some economy-related forecast may be supplied with reference to the above-mentioned commodities. With reference to sugars, the production with high prices and related consumption should continue to remain approximately constant or slightly increase in the short period, while more sustainable and health-driven policies are continuously changing the political and also economic context. With concern to salt, current production levels are growing; consequently, food consumption of salt may get low, but food production is constantly growing in general. Finally, with reference to milkfat derivatives, the current trends are extremely influenced by origin. The current situation should not encourage high milkfat consumption in the food sector when speaking of short-term perspectives.
