Diabetes is currently the fourth most common cause of death in the developed world. Almost a third of individuals with diabetes mellitus are undiagnosed (Sacks, Tietz textbook of laboratory medicine, 7th edn. Saunders, St. Louis, 2022). Accordingly, understanding appropriate laboratory testing for diabetes mellitus is important.
