For many decades therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) has become an accepted practice among providers prescribing medications in order to confirm compliance with medication usage and to evaluate the need to adjust dosage to optimize therapeutic efficacy. Consequently, a firm understanding of the principles of TDM and how they are applied to specific drugs is important.
