Patrick Weston Joyce died at his home in Rathmines in Dublin on 7 January 1914, aged 87 years. His contribution to various spheres of Irish life, including education, literature, antiquarianism and music, was most impressive. Also, his interests, while varied and exhibited a considerable degree of diversity, were by no means engaged in in a haphazard manner. His extensive list of publications illustrates the variegated sweep of his intellectual concern, ranging from a commitment to improving education across Ireland, to his love of the Irish language, Irish songs, Irish history and folklore.
