Tourist Industry in Russia and in the World in the Uncertain Economic Conditions: Issues of Sustainability

The contribution is aimed at assessing the state of the tourism industry in actual conditions of the global economic and geopolitical uncertainty. The authors analyze the contribution of this branch to the GDP of different countries and compare the dynamics of changes of key economic indicators over the past few years. As an example, the Russian Federation is used: the statistical indicators of its tourism industry organizations are analyzed to develop recommendations for representatives of the tourism business community. The state of the tourism industry in Russia and in the world is described under conditions of instability and uncertainty. The volume of tourism’s contribution to the GDP of different countries was determined. The authors’ understanding of opportunities for further development of the tourism business community is given. The objectives of the study are to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the current economic situation and identify directions for increasing the potential of the Russian tourism industry through the policy of import substitution. The significance of the work lies in the development of specific areas of import substitution in tourism that can increase the volume of domestic tourist flow in the short term. The dynamics of modern realities caused by restrictions in connection with the military special operation have determined a new stage in the development of the tourism sector in the world and in Russia. The outbound tourist flow from Russia has decreased significantly, and domestic tourism is acquiring new importance.
