General Conclusion

This project explores the relationship between evolutionary studies of religion and theology, emphasizing the “why” of their cooperation rather than the “how”. It shows that religious traditions emerge from the ongoing interaction between humans and nature. This perspective does not secularize religion, but enriches the understanding of the divine. Through the concepts of “symbolic universe,” “recontextualization,” and “affordance,” the dialogue between theology and evolutionary studies of religion reveals how God invites humanity to imagine a better world within its cultural niche, allowing it to co-author the ongoing history of life on Earth.
