Evolution As History

  • Tom Uytterhoeven

摘要

This chapter discusses the relationship between evolutionary studies of religion and theology within the framework of big history, or rather holistic history. It contrasts retro-reductionist views, which emphasize simple causal chains, with holistic historicity, which recognizes the intricate connections between past and present. Holistic history also challenges appeals to the supernatural and urges theology to recontextualize religious concepts and avoid anthropocentrism. The chapter argues that understanding this complex causality provides a suitable context for dialogue between evolutionary studies of religion and theology, enabling them to engage with human experience and avoid reductionist pitfalls.
