Yoga-Meditation Practice: A Bridge to Students’ Good Mental Health

摘要

The relationship between humans and nature needs to be balanced sustainably with the advancement of science technology. According to the World Health Organization, depression could eventually overtake ischemic heart disease as the world’s biggest cause of mortality. For students, the transitional period, when they proceed from school to college is challenging one. High levels of distress are related to unfavorable socioeconomic outcomes, academic failure, and lower level health. There are substantial concerns about student’s mental health. Therapeutic approaches are not sufficient to avoid further physical and mental disorder. Yoga, meditation, and mindfulness have all been popularised as non-stigmatizing options for traditional mental health treatment. The objective of the paper is to study the mental health condition of the undergraduate students and the need of yoga and meditation practices to promote over all mental wellness of students. It was found from the study that majority of students are facing various types of problems related to their mental health, due to which their daily life, social life and education is being hampered. As mental health is a foundation for student’s overall well-being and academic performance, integrating yoga and meditation in their curriculum and daily life may acts as boon for them.
