The chapter deals with the journey of one of the most important actors on the contemporary Italian scene, Toni Servillo. Having begun his acting career in the experimental theater of the late 1970s, in the company of a young Mario Martone, Servillo came to cinema relatively late and with a considerable refinement, both practical and theoretical, of his acting technique. His style has been perfected over time in a unique and complex balance between the search for expressive naturalness and the constant attention to the “constructed” quality of the performance, which is perhaps more evident in the theater, but also characterizes his stylistic signature in his film appearances.
