Alba Rohrwacher is one of the most awarded and renowned Italian actresses of her generation. Thanks to an uncommon look in comparison to the canon of Italian female beauty and a degree from the most important film acting school in Italy (the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome), she was able to play in auteur and independent productions as well as in mainstream ones. This chapter traces her academic training by examining unpublished footage from the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia archive that portrays her as a student, taking part in lessons and workshops. Both her audition for admission to the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and the numerous films produced as rehearsals in which she took part during the years she attended the school are analyzed here to offer an account of her training. In so doing, the chapter shows how those training years influenced her subsequent career developments and contributed to making her one of the most significant presences in the panorama of contemporary Italian actors.
