After being rejected by the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Luca Marinelli decided to enroll at the Accademia Silvio D’Amico, which became a real springboard to success for him. In 2009, he had the opportunity to come into contact with director Saverio Costanzo thanks to the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Carlo Cecchi, and performed by the academy’s graduate students. Marinelli’s training at the Accademia Silvio D’Amico thus proved crucial in enabling him to obtain an “access passport” to the film, theater, and television industry. Furthermore, Marinelli’s case study shows how professional apprenticeship, or the “hidden side of the acting career,” can also become a key element in the consolidation of an “anti-star discourse”. This chapter aims to shed light on the role of Marinelli’s theatrical training in the construction of his star image, focusing especially on interviews and film reviews.
