Optimization of Asphalt Mixture According to Performance Criteria

In order to use the available resources more efficiently and to provide a largely safe and durable traffic network, it is of great importance to design the individual construction layers of asphalt pavements according to their load. The aim of the research project “Development of asphalts for future heavy traffic loads” is to determine the influence of the composition of asphalt surface course mixtures on their performance properties and to develop an approach for asphalt design using performance-oriented test methods. The results of the tests and the forecast calculations also showed that for all asphalt mixtures tested, a range of binder content was determined in which the skid resistance, fatigue, and deformation behavior changed only slightly.
