Conclusion

This monograph opened with the observation that Vikram Seth poses a challenge to the literary critic, for he cannot be easily contained within any single tradition of contemporary writing in English. This study has developed a text-centered methodology capable of responding to the nuances of his literary strategies. The conclusion highlights a cluster of preoccupations cutting across Seth’s work in all its diversity (notably pastiche, performance, translation, and music) and situates him in a literary milieu that constitutes a meaningful framework to construe his oeuvre.
