Identity, Periphery and Globalisation: Two Narratives of Macau
摘要
This chapter presents a brief perspective of the literature of Macau in Portuguese (also in translation, since nowadays the territory has two official languages) published in the two decades following the change from Portuguese sovereignty to Chinese. The territory was administered by the Portuguese from the sixteenth century onwards, first as a Sino-Portuguese trading post, later from the nineteenth century and the Opium Wars, as a colony of the Portuguese empire whose decolonisation was peacefully negotiated between 1987 and 1999.
