Power, Gender and Sexuality in Contemporary Cape Verdean Literature: Evel Rocha’s Marginais

There is a strong and striking relationship between gender and nationality. The formulation of the discourses of the identities of European nations (models of the modern Nation-States) constructed identity paradigms that guided the formation of individuals first as subjects and later as citizens. By definition, these paradigms also determined which individuals should be excluded from the national identity discourse.
