Finding the Weights of the Criteria in the Flight Selection Problem Using Fuzzy Linear Programming

The Flight Selection Problem (FSP), inherent in the multitude of choices offered by airlines for a given origin-destination (O&D) city pair, presents a challenge for travelers in making informed decisions. Various factors like cost, duration, number of transfers, wait times, baggage allowance, and airline reputation make the decision-making process complex. This study aims to address the complexities of the FSP by using Fuzzy Linear Programming (FLP) to determine optimal weights for different criteria. FLP, known for its ability to handle ambiguity and uncertainty, is applied here to carefully establish customized weights for each criterion, catering to the specific needs of each O&D pair. This approach recognizes the dynamic and subjective nature of traveler preferences and offers a framework for effectively ranking flight options during user searches. By employing FLP, a comprehensive and adaptable approach is taken to optimize decision-making in the travel industry, enabling the provision of personalized flight recommendations tailored to individual preferences.
