Present Audiological Practices and Paths Toward Better Measures and Precision Medicine Approaches

  • René H. Gifford

摘要

This chapter describes (1) present practices in the programming of cochlear implants, which can be characterized by a “one size fits all” approach; (2) possibilities for improving measures that underlie the programming; and (3) a likely transition from present practices to precision medicine approaches such as selective deactivation of electrodes that exacerbate the deleterious effects of channel (electrode) interactions. Preliminary evidence indicates that the present practices may not produce optimal results for many CI users and that evidence is reviewed as well.
