Sigmund Freud’s The Uncanny (1919) discusses “our most haunting experiences of otherness”, which happens when the familiar is rendered unfamiliar and triggers extreme anxietyanxiety and fear (1919: 35). The uncanny is the sensation that one experiences “when the boundary between fantasy and material reality is lost” (Seulin and Bronstein, 2020: 4).
