Emancipatory Knowledges Enhance Pluralism and Develop Social Responsibility Among Tribal Youth in Balochistan

The purpose of this chapter is to explicate the specific features and elements of a developmental education program, i.e. Academic Development ProgramAcademic Development Program (ADP), of an NGO, the Institute for Development Studies and Practices (IDSP) based in BalochistanBalochistan, PakistanPakistan. This chapter is derived from a Ph.D., Research project whose focus was to examine the emancipatory knowledges and actions of participants of the ADP. Research participants of this study were selected following purposive, convenience and theoretical sampling techniques. First, the IDSP founding Director and teachers were selected using the purposive sampling techniques. Second, convenience samplingConvenience sampling was used to choose five learners, three males and two females, by considering their willingness and their availability. Later, theoretical sampling was adopted to select the remaining nine IDSP learners. The research findings related to participants’ discourses on ethnic cultures will be mainly presented in this chapter in the context of globalization and multiculturalismMulticulturalism. Participants’ narratives of their traditional identityTraditional identity and local practices indicate that the structure of the educational program as well as the teaching learning processes strengthened the sense of pluralism among the participants. This program facilitated discourses to demystify the myths and stereotypes about various cultures and deconstruct the problematic traditional practices for strengthening the tribal youth connections with their culture and developing their prudent connection with the globalized world.
