The world is undergoingLanguage ideologies constant change, and MexicoMexico has transitioned from a nation primarily characterized by emigration to one experiencing both return migrationMigration and immigrationImmigration, welcoming diverse populations from Central America, North America, Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa. This evolving demographic landscape underscores the pressing need for the Mexican nation-state to dismantle its nationalistic ideologies, to accept the new “liquid modernity” (Bauman, 2012), and to develop public policies that embrace plurilithicPennycook, A. and plurilinguistic (Piccardo (2018)) perspectivesPiccardo, E. which celebrate cultural and linguistic diversity, rather than seeking to eradicate it.
