Green Ethical Activism in Policy Processes

This chapter argues that green ethical activism can prevent and counteract unethical behaviors in public policy processes by addressing three types of activism: radical environmental movement activism; green inside activism—officials having contacts with environmental movements and seeking to change public policy from inside; and science activism in terms of scientists being environmental activists as an integral part of their professional role. A central theme is how these different activisms can challenge unethical behaviors through value-based arguments and knowledge claims, which can maintain and improve their trustworthiness in the eyes of elected officials, citizens, and key stakeholders.
