This chapter discusses the limitations of traditional teacher evaluationevaluation methods in international schools, highlighting a need for a more effective approach. During a 2013 professional appraisalappraisal event, it became evident that conventional evaluations were not fostering teacher growth or improving teaching quality. It discusses the transformation journey of The KAUST SchoolKAUST School in Saudi ArabiaSaudi Arabia, which aimed to create a cultureculture of learning and growth. They introduced a teacher-led appraisal system that empowered teachersteachers to self-assess, engage in coaching, walk-throughs, and reflective conversations. The system had two tracks: one for self-authoring teachers and another for those with identified performance issues, offering targeted support and action plans. The focus shifted from evaluating teachersteachers to supporting and helping them develop. The discussion emphasizes the importance of aligning appraisalappraisal with deep learning principles, promoting a cultureculture of coaching among educators, and fostering continuous improvement in teaching practices. This shift aligns with the broader trend in education toward job-embedded professional learning programs and a focus on teacher competenciescompetencies to drive innovation and enhance student outcomes.
