Hi, I’m Your Vampire Librarian! Utilizing Nosferatu as a Tool for Library Outreach and Education

  • Billy Tringali

摘要

Through this project, I was able to highlight a unique and interesting piece of history surrounding Florence Stoker, Prana Films, Dracula, and Nosferatu, while also promoting the value of the public domain, vampire studies, and the utilization of popular culture research as a tool for outreach and community building. The exhibit became a unique and interesting way to get students interested in public domain resources, popular culture studies, and the figure of the vampire. I also hope it can help a busy librarian fill their display case this Halloween! Beyond sharing information outside the traditional classroom, this project offered a great opportunity to put up a cool Halloween display. This project also stands as a case study for utilizing the figure of the vampire as a tool for outreach. This chapter will explore the interactive exhibit created to help law students understand ideas of copyright. I will be discussing my successes in leveraging this project as a way to build connections during my first sixty days at Emory University. Ultimately, as Nosferatu reaches its centennial, I celebrate the character and his origins, while teaching this niche group of students critical thinking, empathy, and all those other great things we say College is for.
