Contributions of Afro-Pindoramic Thought to the Decolonial Turn in Community Psychology

Community Psychology emerged as a critical field in Latin America between the 1960s and 1970s, when the psychological community, in dialog with urban and rural movements against military dictatorships, questioned its role in contexts marked by authoritarian dynamics and social inequalities. At that time, class issues were seen as central to understanding reality. The recognition of forms of oppression from an intersectional perspective has been made explicit and associated with the decolonization of psychology. In this paper, we present the contributions of Afro-Pindoramic thought to the decolonization of Community Psychology, taking the knowledge of Afro-Pindoramic women and their writings as lenses for building fractures in the Colonial Gender System. The dialogues and interactions carried out with quilombola women from the Jequitinhonha Valley in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and indigenous women from the Pataxoop ethnic group, point us in the direction of counter-colonial paths to make the turn effective.
