Waves in Resonators: d’Alembert Method and Multivalued Faraday Waves

At the beginning of the chapter, we will present some results of publications that indicate the possibility of forming multivalued waves in resonators. We have already discussed the results of Chester [1, 2]. Another remarkable study was published in 1968 [3]. Two-dimensional internal gravity waves in a rectangular container are examined theoretically and experimentally. The possibility of the formation of waves with stable folds on the profile in the case of resonant excitation of the liquid is shown. The resulting folds and wave profiles are presented in Fig. 3.1.
