Overview

Gun violence is a public health epidemic that undermines the quality of life in marginalized urban neighborhoods and brings a multifaceted set of negative immediate and long-term consequences for these communities. Gun violence will necessitate a coalition of professions coming together to match the challenges in achieving this goal. With a heavy social equity foundation, this health epidemic necessitates new ideas be introduced to aid us in understanding and addressing this problem. This introductory chapter provides readers with a roadmap to how the subject of public spaces, public events, and gun violence will unfold and why this author has taken this particular perspective.
