Dynamical and Aerodynamical Analysis of Moving Road Utility Truck with the Morphing Boom Equipment Under Crosswind Conditions

摘要

The movement of the utility truck with the morphing boom equipment under crosswind conditions can result in significant aerodynamic and dynamical challenges, which can impact the stability and control of the truck. The dynamical difficulties arise due to the combined effects of the aerodynamic forces and movement of the truck on the road. The combined effects result in increased vibrations and reduced stability of the truck. Thus, this paper comprehensively studies the utility truck’s dynamical and aerodynamical analysis in crosswind conditions. First, the impact of crosswind conditions is modeled as an input in a two-domain interactive (truck aerodynamics & truck-road dynamics) model-based design. Afterward, the integration of developed mathematical models of the 7-DOF (degree of freedom) utility truck and the 5-DOF boom equipment are discussed to determine the dynamic response of the truck under crosswind conditions. Finally, mathematical models are presented to investigate all three possible wind-induced accidents, i.e., rollover, sideslip, and rotation. The study highlights the importance of considering crosswinds’ aerodynamic and dynamical effects in designing road utility trucks with morph boom equipment to ensure safety and productivity in a severe environment.
