The Afterlife Image Box
摘要
In the course of his career, Palestinian photographer and cinematographer Hani JawheriehJawherieh, Hani captured and created thousands of images. Yet, almost all of JawheriehJawherieh, Hani’s work was plundered during the 1982 Israeli invasioninvasion of LebanonLebanon and the looting of the Palestine Film Institute. All that remains today as evidence of this artist’s work are a few rare images, including six contact sheetscontact sheets from a shoot done in 1969. In this chapter I look at the construction of an exhibition installation entitled, The Afterlife Image Box, which presented exhibition spectatorsspectators with these contact sheets as the artist’s work in progress. Through the process I explore the ethical dilemma of bringing visual remains of plundervisual remains of plunder into public spheres.
