Gender Equality Narratives by Zimbabwean Women: Education, Employment and Entrepreneurship

Gender inequalities persevere in Africa, yet gender equality is a fundamental human right. Using phenomenology, this chapter explored the experiences of nine Zimbabwean women on gender equalities relating to education, employment and entrepreneurship issues and how they overcame challenges encountered. We argue that patriarchy, poverty, gender stereotypes, and corruption are among the major drivers of gender inequalities in Zimbabwe. Results indicate the presence of gender inequalities in the education, employment and entrepreneurship sectors, making it difficult for women to excel and fulfil their dreams. Though significant efforts have been made by the Zimbabwean government and other stakeholders to ensure gender equality, further reduction of the margin between males and females is still needed.
