摘要

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is an increasingly common diagnosis. Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is an evidence-based practice associated with increased adaptive and functional skills and decreased autism symptomatology, particularly when ABA therapy is delivered early on. This chapter begins with an overview of the autism diagnosis criteria and process, including primary differences between autism and comorbidities. Next, the chapter includes an overview of behavior analytic treatment models for autism, including behavior and skills assessments commonly used by behavior analysts to develop individualized behavior reduction and skill acquisition programs for persons with autism, and strategies that promote generalization of skills. The chapter concludes with a section on other considerations, including alternative treatments available, funding for ABA therapy, and variables associated with optimal outcomes.
