The Role of Zimbabwean Community, Parents and Parents’ Associations Towards Inclusive Education
摘要
This chapter examines the role that communities, parents and parents’ associations play towards inclusive education (IE). Early in children’s lives and before anyone else assumes a teaching role for their children, parents are principal teachers and caregivers at home. Parents, who also are part of the community, maintain the role(s) even throughout a child’s school years. Parents and community involvement in education, in general, and inclusive education (IE), in particular, is thus indispensable and a major indication of quality education. Therefore, this review chapter analysed literature focused on the role of parents, parents’ associations and communities towards inclusive education. The chapter is also based on the author’s experiential knowledge, supported by a review of empirical studies. The chapter makes some recommendations regarding the enhancement of parents, parents’ associations and community participation towards the effective implementation of inclusive education.
