Meander-Shaped Miniature Antenna for 2.4 GHz IoT Applications

Applications built upon the Internet of Things (IoT) necessitate seamless integration with wireless communication technologies to ensure the effortless accessibility of application data. Recognizing this demand, the present study introduces a novel meander-shaped patch antenna specifically tailored for IoT applications. Fabricated on a Rogers RT-5880 substrate, this antenna operates within the 2.4 GHz frequency band, effectively covering the WLAN spectrum. The tuning of this proposed antenna is meticulously achieved through the utilization of a parallel strip connection to the ground plane, facilitated by a metal via. Employing advanced CST MWS software, the antenna is intricately designed, featuring overall dimensions of 20 mm × 10 mm × 1.57 mm (equivalent to 0.16 λ0 × 0.08 λ0 × 0.01 λ0 at 2.4 GHz). Furthermore, to ensure the reliability of the design, the simulation results obtained from the CST MWS simulator are meticulously validated using HFSS. The distinguishing novelty of this antenna lies in its diminutive size, compactness, seamless integration into circuitry, cost-effectiveness, and ease of fabrication, thus positioning it as a promising solution for IoT applications.
