Environmental Management System (EMS)

摘要

Environmental management system takes proactive approach through which non-compliance risks can be minimized, and health and safety practices can be improved. An Environmental management system can also promote stronger operational control and employee stewardship. The process of EMS includes identifying significant environmental aspects, employee are competent and controlling documents. However, the purpose of EMS is to make necessary improvements, complying with legal obligations and progress assessment for achieving environmental goals. For EMS, ISO 14000 is a standard adopted by 171 countries which is based on plan-do-check-act (PDCA) model of improvements. There is a list of ISO 14000 standards which consists of set of standards related environmental management discussed in the chapter. There are 5 main stages of environmental management explained i.e., commitment and policy, planning, implementation, evaluation, and review. The chapter also explains organization standards such as EMS, Environmental auditing, and environmental performance evaluation. Product oriented standards helps in generating revenue through sustainable products and services. These standards can be used as standard guidelines in international trade by taking account of environmental goals.
