EIA Procedure—Decision Making

摘要

The ultimate objective of Environmental assessment is the decision-making process. By considering the overall impact of a project, Expert appraisal committee raises questions and from the perspective of civil society. In this chapter, the importance of decision making, the role of Environmental Appraisal committee and NoC has been discussed. This chapter explores the researcher’s perspective towards the effectiveness of decision making and to improve the quality of EIA process for more sustainable outcomes. Decision making process can vary from country to country thus leading to different environmental decisions. EAC has an important role to play as it brings expertise to the process hence should be independent. NoC is obtained from concerned pollution control boards depending on various factors such as type of industry, location, area etc. A detailed procedure for environmental clearance is also discussed in the chapter to get a clear understanding of the process of application and getting NoC from the authorities.
