Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a systematic procedure that entails recognizing, forecasting, assessing, and controlling the potential environmental effects of planned projects or activities. The initial step in the EIA process is impact identification, which entails systematically recognizing potential environmental impacts that could result from the proposed project or activity. This step is essential as it establishes the foundation for the entire Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process and defines the range and depth of the following steps. The impact identification process entails a thorough examination of the proposed project or activity to pinpoint any potential environmental implications. The chapter covers direct and indirect repercussions, short-term and long-term effects, as well as cumulative impacts. Direct implications stem directly from the proposed project or activity, whereas indirect impacts emerge from the downstream effects of the project or activity. Short-term impacts arise during the construction, operation, or decommissioning phase of the project, whereas long-term repercussions manifest once the project is over. Cumulative impacts arise from the collective influence of the planned project or activity in conjunction with other previous, current, or anticipated future initiatives or activities.
