Terminology and Definitions

In lieu of a glossary at the end of a book, this book begins with a list of common terms used in mechanical ventilation. This chapter is intended to briefly introduce each term to create familiarity and consistency, with more detailed descriptions occurring later in the text. We repeatedly use the same terms for each concept throughout the text to maximize comprehension. Note that depending upon locales and brands, different terms may be used for similar concepts, especially with regard to ventilator settings.
