Responding to Ventilator Alarms

  • Vahé Ender

摘要

No alarm is generated by ventilators without reason—any and all alarm should be investigated. Alarms that suggest a life-threatening situation can be investigated through a clinical exam of chest rise, lung sounds, oxygen saturation, and capnography. Patients who decompensate while on the ventilator should be evaluated using the DOPES and DOTTS mnemonic.
