Operations for Rectal Prolapse
摘要
Rectal prolapse, a full-thickness protrusion of the rectal wall through the anus, is managed with surgical intervention. Options for this repair include abdominal and perineal approaches, which may involve at least one or a combination of the following techniques: mobilization and fixation of the rectum (rectopexy), bowel resection and anastomosis, or mesh placement. Preoperative morbidities, frailty, and the individual’s treatment goals should be considered in conjunction with each procedure’s specific complication profile. The operating surgeon needs to be familiar with managing a variety of simple and complex postoperative adverse events.
