摘要

In 2023, Pew Research (2023) found that public trust in government had plummeted to a historic low of 16%. That same year, just 37% of respondents to a Gallup poll said that they had a great (6%) or fair deal (31%) of confidence in the ability of government to handle domestic problems—that is down from 70% in 1972 (Jones 2023). Similarly, only 32% of Americans said that they had a great (2%) or fair amount (30%) of faith and confidence in the legislative branch—a decrease of 33% from 1972. The Executive branch has not fared much better either, with confidence plummeting more than thirty points from 73% in 1972 to 41% by late 2023.
