The problem of long-distance transportation of gases through pipelines is relatively modern, beginning historically in cities with the distribution of manufactured gas at very low pressure (200 mm of water column or less, above atmospheric pressure) distributed through cast iron pipes by means of large diameter, mainly for public lighting. Indeed, gas began to be used for lighting cities until it was replaced by electricity.
