Healthcare for Refugees and Asylum Seekers

There are 231,597 refugees in the UK as of November 2022, according to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) statistics, and 127,421 pending asylum seekers [1]. In the UK, refugees and asylum seekers are entitled to free NHS healthcare. However, they face many barriers accessing the system, some of which this chapter will cover [2]. Due to their experiences, previous country and migration journey, refugees have a variety of physical, mental and social health needs that may differ from the general population.
