Green H2: One of the Allies for Decarbonization

摘要

Green hydrogen is emerging as the pivotal player in the journey toward the net-zero-emissions global economy. Nevertheless, its transportation over long distances at a large scale is challenging considering both costs and technology, primarily due to H2 low volumetric energy density. To delve into these challenges, different hydrogen carriers can be exploited, such as liquid hydrogen, ammonia, or liquid organic hydrogen carriers. Hydrogen carriers serve as a medium to store and transport hydrogen in a safe and efficient manner, enabling its delivery from the production sites to the end users. Upon arrival at the end users, these carriers can undergo reconversion for gaseous H2 release. Various hydrogen carriers exist, each with distinct features and suitability for different transport modes and applications. These carriers undergo continuous innovation and development to enhance their efficiency, safety, and economic viability. To help understanding their applicability, opportunities and drawbacks of each of them are pointed out in this section.
