Introduction

This book analyzes and explicates the logical process of forming beliefs in truth. Section 1.1: The book first introduces the example of legal factfinding. Section 1.2: Then the book will explain uncertainty and the theories of bivalent probabilities and multivalent beliefs. It will apply the theories to understand how the legal factfinder should and does process evidence and evaluate proof. It will finally extend the theories to all kinds of attempts by humans to decide what they will treat as truth in an uncertain world. Section 1.3: This book is an original take on an important problem that has long impeded comprehension of decisionmaking under uncertainty.
