摘要

Revamping an established Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to support a new trauma center is a complex endeavor that involves changes within the entire hospital network. In this chapter, we explore the challenges we specifically faced, including analyzing public data to predict patient volume, estimating additional operative case load, assessing staffing needs, establishing protocols for transitions between departments, and ensuring patient safety. In summary, this chapter details the intricacies of transforming an existing ICU, emphasizing the importance of data analysis, operational planning, interdepartmental coordination, external partnerships, and, above all, a commitment to patient safety in the context of a new trauma center within the healthcare facility.
