Interventional Radiology: Here Comes Trauma!

The creation of a Level I Trauma Center, especially in a large metropolitan city, is a daunting task to be sure. A vital step in this endeavor is establishing a path to the seamless integration of Interventional Radiology (IR) into the complex construction of the trauma center. Critical to this process is forging a strong relationship with the trauma surgeons and their administrative staff; naming the IR leadership team; defining the responsibilities of IR physician and administrative leaders; creating, dividing and prioritizing worklists; setting and adhering to guidelines; and being prepared to address all unexpected obstacles (Covid!). Failure to do so is not an option as poor planning results in lost lives.
