The Application of MIKE11 on External Irrigation Water Supply and Regional Water Quality Analysis

This study employed a one-dimensional MIKE11 model, integrating rainfall-runoff, hydrodynamics and water quality, to clarify the spatial–temporal variation in pollutant concentrations in QiuXi River basin. The evaluation of the in-basin pollutant load and in-branch water quality is mainly based on indicator concentrations such as COD, NH3–N and TP. The external water resource transfer over catchment boundaries for irrigation use during springtime is well-estimated in MIKE11 NAM model as an additional runoff, by converting the water volume into equivalent rainfall rate in the hydrological model. This approach accounts for not only the combined influence of natural runoff and irrigation runoff in the water resources of the river, but also the combined impact on agricultural runoff induced by rainfall event and irrigation practice. Validation of the model result against real-world measurements indicates the effectiveness of this approach: the model results are in good agreement with the measurements, accurately reproduce both hydrogragh and the seasonal variation pattern in water quality of QiuXi River.
