Nitrogen-Vacancy Centers

  • Chuck Easttom

摘要

Nitrogen vacancies in diamonds are instances where a carbon in the diamond’s matrix was replaced by a nitrogen atom during the formation of the diamond. These vacancies have specific chemical properties that can be utilized to create qubits. The primary advantage to this approach to qubits is that it allows fully functional qubits at room temperature. Secondly, nitrogen-vacancy centers have long coherence times, making them attractive choices for physical qubits. This approach to quantum computing is quite promising, though not yet widely used.
