FANP-Based Comparison of AI and Blockchain in Managing HAZMAT: An Application to End-of-Life Aircraft

Aircraft decommissioning poses significant challenges in hazardous material (HAZMAT) management, limiting sustainable part recovery and posing environmental risks. This study proposes a novel decision-making framework integrating Industry 4.0 (I4.0) technologies (blockchain and AI) with a Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (FANP) to address these challenges. We analyze the potential of these technologies for improved HAZMAT traceability and decision-making within the context of aircraft decommissioning. The framework provides insights based on key performance indicators enabling informed technology selection that balances environmental sustainability, part recovery, and technological efficiency.
